At Restoring Connections Counseling, we believe in the importance of reestablishing and rebuilding the relationships between parent and child. Family reunification counseling aims to heal wounds in the relationship, increase communication, and create an environment of trust. Our approach to family reunification is child-directed to ensure that trust is built in the therapeutic process. The desire is to re-create the attachment to the alienated or estranged parent. Play therapy is how a child communicates and processes emotions and events. Through play therapy, parents and children can communicate and engage in games and activities that describe their needs and wants in the rehabilitated relationship to restore the desired connection.
In addition, co-parenting counseling is recommended to ensure both parents meet the child’s needs in cases where the family court is involved.
